
Douglas McDonald, MD
Sports Medicine Physician
Dr. McDonald is board certified in both Family Medicine and Sports Medicine. He grew up in Colorado and earned his medical degree from the University of Colorado. Dr. McDonald completed his residency in Family Medicine at Swedish Medical Center in Denver and then completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship at Michigan State University.
He has been faculty in the UCF and FSU Colleges of Medicine and continues to have involvement teaching residents and medical students.
Dr. McDonald has many Florida ties as well having been a team physician for the University of Florida Gators athletics for 6 years during which time he provided care for all sports. He was a member of the Gators during 4 National Championships including football and men’s basketball. Dr. McDonald has extensive experience in concussion management in sports as well as the medical aspects of sports medicine and non-operative orthopedics. Dr. McDonald has worked with all levels of athletes from professional and Olympic athletes, college and high school athletes, and recreational athletes. His philosophy is “Everyone is an athlete,” so he treats every patient so they can get back to their daily activities at their best possible.
Dr. McDonald has wide ranging personal interests including photography, weight training, running, and cycling. He enjoys fishing, hiking, and SCUBA diving. He still plays baseball and tennis and is a certified baseball and softball coach.
